Fighting the Bankruptcy Crisis

The agriculture sector is currently facing a dramatic increase in financial distress, with Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies on the rise. According to the U.S. Courts, Chapter 12 filings have seen a sharp increase. In the 12-month period ending December 31, 2024, farm bankruptcies in the U.S. rose by 55% compared to the previous year, reaching 216 filings. This upward trend is continuing into 2025. Data from July 2025 shows that national Chapter 12 filings have already surpassed the 2024 total, reaching 259 filings in the first quarter of 2025 alone. This escalating crisis underscores the urgent need for our services.

Addressing the Global Farmer Suicide Epidemic

The financial and operational pressures on farmers are not just economic; they have a severe impact on mental health. Tragically, suicide rates among farmers are alarmingly high, often far exceeding those of the general population. In the U.S., farmers have one of the highest suicide rates of any profession. While specific state-by-state data for 2024 and 2025 is still being compiled, historical trends and preliminary data indicate a continuing crisis in states with significant agricultural industries. Globally, the situation is equally grim, with the highest rates of farmer suicides reported in India, followed by Australia, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States. Our emergency fund serves as a crucial intervention, alleviating financial stress that can lead to mental health crises and despair.

THe debt of it all

In 2025 the U.S. farm sector debt is projected to reach a record $591.8 billion. With a labor shortage estimated at 400,000 due to an aging sector and farm worker challenges the food system is often in need of emergency aid.
